2007 07: Remand of toddler’s relative extended

KOTA BARU: The remand of a 34-year-old woman who was arrested to facilitate investigations into the death of toddler Mohd Ashraf Nor Aswadi in Kampung Kubang Berulat, Bachok, on Saturday, has been extended.
Magistrate Tengku Amalin Aishah Putri Sultan Ismail Petra ordered her remand to be extended to July 16.
The woman, a close relative of the 10-month-old boy, was arrested a day after the incident and initially remanded for three days.
Mohd Ashraf was the youngest of six siblings. His body was found lying face down in a canal about 5m from his house at about 7am.
His mother said she realised Mohd Ashraf was not in his bed at 3am and found that the kitchen door was not locked. At the time, his father was in Gua Musang.
Police said Mohd Ashraf drowned and have classified the case as murder. – Bernama
