2007 06: Suspected rapist at large

KUALA LUMPUR: “My cat is missing. It's a beautiful cat. I'll pay you if you help me find it.”
This is the tactic used by a suspected serial rapist currently prowling the streets of Kampung Baru.
The man, who prefers little girls, recently targeted a six-year-old girl in Kampung Baru.
The suspected rapist is said to have approached her at 11am on Wednesday morning while she was waiting for her mother to pick her up after she had attended religious school.
Using his “missing cat” story, the rapist convinced the little girl to follow him to a secluded location, where he molested her.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Ahmad Ibrahim said the girl's parents looked for her for five hours and found her by the roadside at about 5pm.
“She was found half nude,” he said, adding that there were bloodstains and swellings on her body.
The girl was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment, where it was discovered that she had suffered injuries to her private parts.
“We suspect that she was raped, but are still awaiting the full report from the hospital. We have not been able to get a statement from her as she is still traumatised from her experience,” SAC Ahmad said.
A trader in the area, who only wanted to be known as Mat, said the incident was the third in Kampung Baru in the past month.
He said the first incident happened at the end of the last school holidays, and involved an eight-year-old girl, while the second happened earlier this month and the victim was a seven-year-old girl.
Another trader, known as Agus, said his daughters almost became victims too.
“My daughters had gone to the weekly market and were approached by a man on a motorcycle, who asked them to help find his missing cat,” he said.
