KUALA LUMPUR: She was left under his care while her parents were away at work.
Instead, general worker S. Shanmugam, 35, was said to have raped her.
Yesterday, Shanmugam claimed trial to raping his relative’s daughter who allegedly gave birth to his baby about two months ago.
The father of two, from Ayer Tawar in Perak, was accused of raping the student, then 15, at her squatter home in Pekan Sg Besi in Cheras between 4.30pm and 6pm in June last year.
The girl lodged a police report over the alleged rape on March 23.
The accused, who has a pregnant wife and two young children, was picked up on April 23 and produced in the new court building in Jalan Duta yesterday to face the charge.
Sessions Court judge Datin Anita Harun set bail at RM15,000 with two local sureties.
Anita, after getting confirmation from the prosecution that the victim and her child were not staying with the accused, then set three days from Sept 17 for the trial.
Shanmugam posted bail.

Purpose/objectives of the news tracker
Daniel Schorr of CBS News says, "All news is an exaggeration of life." But, life should not be a casual dismissal and forgetting of the many instances of abuse and violation of our children.
Shelter News Tracker is then an attempt to record and track the many reports and court cases of abuse that is reported daily in our Malaysian online newspapers. In this way, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) hopes to be a voice and a record for the innocents in our society.
After all, a Chinese proverb says, "Good news about someone never gets past the door, but bad news will travel a thousand leagues away."
