ALOR STAR: An 11-year-old boy suffered bruises believed to have been inflicted by his foster father on several parts of his body at their home at Persiaran Sultan Abdul Hamid, here.
The incident occurred at about 8.30pm on Monday after the boy used the telephone without permission.
It is learnt that his foster father beat him with a plastic chair and a belt.
The boy was sent to the Alor Star Hospital at about 10pm by a relative. He was reported to be in stable condition.
A police spokesman said they received a report at 5.40am yesterday.
Police have yet to call the foster father to give his statement.

- is the natural extension of Shelter Home for Children's (a registered welfare organisation which was started in 1981) mission to aid abused, abandoned or neglected children through our homes and services. As such, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) was started in April 2007 to be a stronger voice for children in Malaysia who have been abused or violated.
Purpose/objectives of the news tracker
Daniel Schorr of CBS News says, "All news is an exaggeration of life." But, life should not be a casual dismissal and forgetting of the many instances of abuse and violation of our children.
Shelter News Tracker is then an attempt to record and track the many reports and court cases of abuse that is reported daily in our Malaysian online newspapers. In this way, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) hopes to be a voice and a record for the innocents in our society.
After all, a Chinese proverb says, "Good news about someone never gets past the door, but bad news will travel a thousand leagues away."
