2007 03: Student hit with spade in a coma
NST online. Local News. 21/03/07
ALOR STAR, WED: A Form Four student is in a coma after being hit with a spade — apparently for creating a din with his friends.
Ahmad Faizlan Yusof, 16, was allegedly attacked by a man at the Immigration Department quarters here on Monday night.
The man, in his 30s, was said to have been furious with the group of noisy teenagers who had gathered near his house.
Faizlan’s mother, Masita Ramli, 38, said her son had left their house in Ladang Laka Temin on his bicycle about 8pm to discuss some schoolwork with his friends.
"I was at home at the time and about one-and-a-half hours later, I was informed that Faizlan had been assaulted.
"I was told that a man had attacked him with a spade and hit him thrice until he fell to the ground," Masita said when met at her house yesterday.
It is believed that Faizlan could have met up with some friends who were riding motorcycles.
However, it has yet to be determined if they had caused a disturbance with their motorcycles.
Masita said doctors had informed her that Faizlan suffered a cracked skull and they had operated twice on him to remove blood clots in his brain.
At Press time, Faizlan, the second child among three siblings, has yet to regain consciousness and is warded at the Alor Star Hospital.
Kubang Pasu District police chief Superintendent Mohd Karim Abu, who confirmed the assault, warned the public not to take the law into their own hands.
He said police were investigating the case under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a dangerous object.
Police were also looking for the alleged assailant.
