About Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness)
- Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness)
- is the natural extension of Shelter Home for Children's (a registered welfare organisation which was started in 1981) mission to aid abused, abandoned or neglected children through our homes and services. As such, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) was started in April 2007 to be a stronger voice for children in Malaysia who have been abused or violated.
Purpose/objectives of the news tracker
Daniel Schorr of CBS News says, "All news is an exaggeration of life." But, life should not be a casual dismissal and forgetting of the many instances of abuse and violation of our children.
Shelter News Tracker is then an attempt to record and track the many reports and court cases of abuse that is reported daily in our Malaysian online newspapers. In this way, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) hopes to be a voice and a record for the innocents in our society.
After all, a Chinese proverb says, "Good news about someone never gets past the door, but bad news will travel a thousand leagues away."
(Please note that the editorials, letters and opinions selected from the online newspapers and posted here do not necessarily reflect the views of Shelter.)

The Shelter News Tracker basically functions as a news tracker on online newspaper reports on abuse and violence on children solely as a platform for discussion and action.
As such, no commentary is written in the blog with regards to the reports.
Comments/feedback posted by readers of the blog are very welcome. However, please be advised that these comments will be moderated to protect the sensitivities of the purpose of this blog.
Inclusion of these comments also does not necessarily imply that Shelter is in agreement with the views expressed but, rather, they are included for the overarching purposes of discussion and action.
