A five-year-old girl was reported missing during a picnic with five family members near the Tanjung Lobang beach here.
Puteri Zahirah Fandi was last seen playing at the water’s edge at about 6pm yesterday. A search was mounted until midnight after a report of her disappearance was lodged at about 7pm.
Miri fire-and-rescue superintendent, Mohd Shoki Hamzah, said that nearly 40 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, police’s General Operations Force and nearby military camp took part in the search effort when it resumed at 6.30am today. They had been divided into small groups to scour the sea and nearby jungle for the missing girl, he said.

- is the natural extension of Shelter Home for Children's (a registered welfare organisation which was started in 1981) mission to aid abused, abandoned or neglected children through our homes and services. As such, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) was started in April 2007 to be a stronger voice for children in Malaysia who have been abused or violated.
Purpose/objectives of the news tracker
Daniel Schorr of CBS News says, "All news is an exaggeration of life." But, life should not be a casual dismissal and forgetting of the many instances of abuse and violation of our children.
Shelter News Tracker is then an attempt to record and track the many reports and court cases of abuse that is reported daily in our Malaysian online newspapers. In this way, Shelter (Advocacy & Awareness) hopes to be a voice and a record for the innocents in our society.
After all, a Chinese proverb says, "Good news about someone never gets past the door, but bad news will travel a thousand leagues away."
